Mathurin Jousse founded the study of iron fracture in the 17th century

Mathurin Jousse was a French architect and writer. He wrote a treatise on locksmithing in which he selected iron according to the appearance of its fracture. This approach inaugurated a long tradition that led to metallography through Réaumur in the 18th century.
