Zond 3 photographed the Moon before aiming for Mars

Zond 3 is a third-generation Soviet space probe designed to explore the solar system. After two failures, this craft manages to photograph the far side of the Moon during its mission. Launched after these snapshots, the probe continues its journey to Mars to collect telemetry data and gather information on its status.
