A bluff to launch the Soviet space program

The Zond program experienced delays because the space train consisting of the Block D and the spacecraft proved to be 0.5 tonnes too heavy. To circumvent this overload, Korolev devised a complex scenario involving a double launch and an extravehicular activity to change spacecraft. The engineers finally managed to lighten the structure, allowing this outlandish project to be abandoned as early as June 1967.
