Apollo's parabolic antennas enabled communication from space

The Apollo telecommunications system managed links between the spacecraft, Earth, the lunar module, and the astronauts. When the spacecraft moved away from Earth, communications switched to a steerable high-gain antenna. This antenna consisted of four 78-centimeter dishes attached to the back of the service module.
