Niccolò Machiavelli hand-copied a major work in 1497

Niccolò Machiavelli is the author of a handwritten copy of De rerum natura by Lucretius in 1497. Not mastering ancient Greek, he had forged a solid culture by reading Greek philosophers in Latin as well as the great Latin authors. This reading of Lucretius deeply influenced his approach to religion.
