The first French review of Walden

The first French review of Walden appeared on September 15, 1887 in the Revue des deux Mondes. Written by the essayist Thérèse Bentzon in an article titled Le Naturalisme aux États-Unis, the text chauvinistically claimed that the writer was seeking to return to his French origins through his writing. This French reception was particularly late compared to other European countries, which had translated the work very early.
