Uranus changes appearance according to the seasons
Uranus is an ice giant planet that long appeared asymmetrical. In 1986, the Voyager 2 probe discovered a collar of bright clouds in its southern hemisphere, while the north remained invisible due to the summer season. At the beginning of the 21st century, space telescopes showed that the northern hemisphere was uniformly dark and devoid of this cap. During the 2007 equinox, the southern collar finally faded to give way to a northern equivalent around 45° latitude.
