The massive disappearance of forests around Lake Ontario

Deforestation near Lake Ontario led to the removal of more than 90 percent of forest cover in some regions to make way for agriculture. This clear-cutting caused several major consequences including the loss of forest birds, the extinction of native salmon, and an increase in sediment in the water. Current restoration guidelines insist on the need to replant trees along streams and wetlands.
