Yellowstone bison are threatened by mass culling
Yellowstone is home to the largest public herd of bison in the United States, with approximately 4,000 individuals recorded in 2006. Ranchers fear that these animals might transmit brucellosis to their cattle, although no case of contamination has ever been observed. Faced with these pressures, the park regularly carries out large-scale culls, as in 2023 when nearly 1,200 bison were eliminated out of a total of 6,000.
