A Yellowstone bacterium revolutionized genetics

Steamboat Geyser is the largest geyser in the world and is located in Yellowstone National Park. It is in these boiling geysers that scientists discovered the eubacterium Thermus aquaticus. The Taq polymerase enzyme extracted from this bacterium allowed for the development of the PCR technique, which completely revolutionized genetic engineering.
