A deserter discovered a portion of the largest cave system

Proctor Cave is part of the Mammoth Cave underground system, the largest in the world. It was discovered by Jonathan Doyle, a deserter from the Union Army during the Civil War. This cavity was then connected in September 1983 to the rest of the system by teams of speleologist explorers.
