A genetic mutation blocks the pangare color in donkeys

The pangare is a lightening of the coat of equids genetically comparable to that observed in mice. A missense mutation on the ASIP protein sometimes causes the absence of this transmission in the foal despite both parents being pangare. This phenomenon had been suspected by American miniature donkey breeders before being genetically identified.
