Spy satellites calmed the Cold War

Spy satellites are military observation devices developed as early as 1959 by the United States and the USSR. This space surveillance was completely lawful since national borders no longer apply beyond an altitude of 80 km. These devices played a stabilizing role by allowing the refutation of propaganda exaggerations, such as the missile gap feared in the 1960s.
