The Soviet Buran shuttle flew without anyone on board

Buran is a Soviet spaceplane developed to compete with the Americans. This craft could carry up to 27 tons of cargo and operate in a fully automatic manner. Its only orbital flight took place on November 15, 1988 without any cosmonaut on board.
