Jijé left Europe for America out of fear of the atomic threat hanging over the continent. Before his departure, he entrusted his series to the young artists in his studio, including Eddy Paape. The latter thus inherited the Adventures of Jean Valhardi in the Spirou magazine starting on July 4, 1946.
