The word astronautics was invented in 1927

Astronautics is a term invented by the writer J.-H. Rosny aîné during a meeting of the Committee for the Promotion of Space Travel in 1927. Robert Esnault-Pelterie initially proposed the word sideration, which was rejected because it was deemed too ridiculous by the participants. The term adopted unanimously then traveled the world to designate this new science.
