Marco Sanudo mistrusted Greek bishops

Marco Sanudo refused to install a Greek bishop during the conquest of his duchy. This political decision aimed to eliminate any risk of loyalty toward the Empire of Nicaea to the detriment of his authority. In return, he exempted monasteries belonging to the Order of Saint Basil from taxes to maintain calm.
