A missing rodent reappears by chance in Colombia

The Santamartamys rufodorsalis is a Colombian rodent that has eluded scientists for more than a century. The species had only left behind two specimens collected respectively in 1898 and before 1913, before becoming completely untraceable. On May 4, 2011, five people rediscovered it by chance at an altitude of 1,958 meters while they were looking for amphibians.
