The melody of Sandstorm originated from an imitation

Sandstorm is the most famous track by the Finnish musician Darude. He designed the main melody of this piece by dissecting a track he enjoyed to understand its arrangement. He then contacted the producer JS16 in August 1999 by handing him a demo on CD.
