A pony described as hideous in the United States

The Sandalwood pony is a horse originating from the island of Sumba whose golden age of trade occurred between 1890 and 1910. This reputation did not prevent an official American document on foreign trade from describing this animal in 1900 under the name of hideous little pony present on the island of Java. At that time, these equines were the subject of intense exports led by local aristocrats and competed with those from the neighboring island of Sumbawa.
