The recorded birth of urban samba

Urban samba comes from the evolution of the partido-alto samba practiced in the backyards of the Tias Baianas. It is at the home of one of them, Tia Ciata, that the very first recorded samba in history was composed. Entitled Pelo telephone, this work marked the year 1916 by propelling this musical genre out of its original circle towards other social classes.
