A very precise drawing for a hidden leg

The Child Jesus is the subject of three preparatory study sheets produced around 1502-1503. The artist shows great meticulousness by drawing parts of the body destined to disappear. The right leg of the Child is thus represented in its entirety, even though it is meant to be largely hidden by that of his mother.
