A preparatory drawing by Leonardo da Vinci was destroyed during the war

The Resta-Esterházy cartoon is a copy of the original cartoon by Leonardo da Vinci cautiously dated between 1503 and 1506. It disappeared in Budapest during the Second World War and only photographic prints bear witness to it today. It allowed for the observation of the painter's initial choices, such as Saint Anne represented with the features of an older woman.
