The secret technique of Renaissance masters

Infrared reflectography is an analysis technique allowing the revelation of elements invisible to the naked eye on works of art. It allowed for the detection in 2008 of series of small dots on the contours of faces in the painting by Leonardo da Vinci. These traces prove the use of a spolvero transfer technique using an intermediate sheet to avoid blackening the original with carbon powder.
