A masterpiece by Leonardo da Vinci is lost today

The cartoon The Virgin and Child with Saint Anne is a lost preparatory work by Leonardo da Vinci. Created at the very beginning of the 1500s after an initial abandoned project, this preparatory drawing replaced the infant John the Baptist with a lamb. It was exhibited in public in April 1501 in Florence, sparking admiration before disappearing forever.
