A Roman statue was transformed into Saint Anne
In Brittany, a wooden statue representing the Roman goddess Bona Dea nursing two children was discovered in March 1625 by a peasant named Yvon Nicolazic. It was then modified by the Capuchin monks of Auray to become the image of a trinitarian Saint Anne holding the Virgin and the Child Jesus on her lap. This discovery was at the origin of the creation of the pilgrimage to Sainte-Anne-d'Auray.
