The Holy Kinship is an artistic representation of the extended family of Saint Anne that could include up to twenty-nine figures. This composition notably integrated her three successive husbands and the daughters she had with them. This theme, very popular in Northern Europe, met a brutal end when the Council of Trent rejected it in 1563.
