Martin Luther called Saint Anne a pagan goddess

Martin Luther is the famous reformer at the origin of Protestantism. From 1518, he criticizes the cult rendered to Saint Anne and places her at the head of the goddesses of the pantheon of idolaters. This religious hostility contributes to causing her devotion to recede in Western art from the middle of the 16th century.
