The Imperial Diet is the supreme constitutional institution of the Holy Roman Empire resulting from the reforms of the 15th and 16th centuries. It meets from 1663 as a perpetual diet in the city of Regensburg. This permanence was never the subject of a formal decision, but simply resulted from the circumstances of the deliberations of the time.
