Charles V authorized Protestant pastors to marry in 1548

The Augsburg Interim is a religious compromise imposed in 1548 by Charles V following the Schmalkaldic War. It authorized Protestant pastors to marry and laypeople to receive communion under both kinds. This temporary religious tolerance was obtained thanks to the resistance of Catholic princes against the emperor's centralizing reforms.
