A Caravaggio painting was stolen from a Maltese museum

The Saint Jerome Writing painting by Caravaggio was stolen on December 29, 1984, while it was at the Saint John's Co-Cathedral museum in Valletta. The work had already experienced multiple moves over the centuries, passing from private homes to chapels and museums. After nearly four years of absence, the painting was finally recovered on August 4, 1988, to return to its place in the Maltese museums.
