A rifle with impractical controls

The SA80 is an assault rifle whose firing and safety mechanisms were deemed not very ergonomic. The safety button is a cross-bolt type and forces the user to let go of the weapon with their left hand to operate it. This design prevents the shooter from disengaging the safety and firing in a single movement.
