A NATO threat saved the SA80 rifle

The SA80 is a British assault rifle whose reliability problems were long denied by the Ministry of Defence. In 1997, NATO threatened to remove the weapon from its list of approved equipment, pushing the authorities to react. A contract was thus awarded in 2000 to the German company Heckler & Koch to correct the major defects of the mechanism.
