Paying doctors with wine and slaves

Vakhtang V is a Georgian king who brought many artists, missionaries, and doctors from Europe. To secure their services, he regularly paid them with wine and slaves. This cultural policy was also accompanied by the welcoming of Italian and Spanish dancers to the royal court.
