Archil wished to marry Ketevan Bagration, a prisoner held by the Ottomans. To break his official engagement to the daughter of Prince Tsitsishvili, he spread false rumors about an alleged incestuous relationship involving her. This lie provoked a duel between Archil and the princess's brother before being settled for 2,000 tomans in 1667.
