Patrick Dewaere is a French actor who abandoned the surname Maurin in April 1967. He conceived his pseudonym from his four family surnames which are Maurin, Bourdeaux, Collignon and Têtard, by opting for De Waëre. This choice comes from the name of the second husband of a maternal great-grandmother, and means The True in old Flemish.
