A petition sends an athlete to the army before his tragic death

Gérard Saint is a cyclist whose military induction was decided after new medical examinations. A newspaper revealed that a petition signed by forty-seven inhabitants of Argentan had been sent to the ministry to express outrage that such an athlete was escaping service during the Algerian War. Shortly after his departure for the training unit in Auvours, he died at the wheel of his Citroën ID19 in March 1960 at the entrance to Le Mans.
