A New York spire inspired by ancient Greece
Saint Paul's Chapel in Manhattan possesses a 37-meter-high wooden spire. Its square base becomes an octagon at the upper level, imitating the Choragic Monument of Lysicrates erected in the 4th century BC in Athens. Covered with copper in 1840, it also houses two bells, the oldest of which dates back to 1797.
