The 1980 eruption of Mount Saint Helens released colossal destructive energy. This volcanic explosion was equivalent to 350 megatons of TNT, or about 27,000 Hiroshima atomic bombs. The cataclysm resulted in the death of 57 people as well as about twelve million fish.
