Sailor Moon revolutionized the magical girl genre

Sailor Moon is a Japanese cultural franchise that popularized and deeply renewed magical girls. Previously solitary and confined to adult professions, heroines now unite as a team to fight evil by integrating the codes of sentai and shōnen. This evolution paved the way for numerous successful series such as Magic Knight Rayearth and Pretty Cure.
