Vultures cool themselves by defecating on their own legs

The Turkey Vulture and the Black Vulture use a singular method to fight against the heat. They practice urohidrosis, a behavior that consists of defecating on their legs in order to lower their body temperature through evaporation. This technique helps these birds of Saguaro National Park to withstand the arid climate of the Sonoran Desert.
