The absorbance of crocin allows for the measurement of saffron quality and color in a laboratory. This photometric value is obtained through tests standardized globally by the International Organization for Standardization. The finest sample in the world has thus reached a record absorbance of 250, far surpassing the minimum threshold of 190 set for category I.
