CD manufacturing was much faster than cartridge manufacturing

CD-ROMs could be produced in large quantities much faster than ROM cartridges. The manufacturing lead time for these optical discs took one week, while cartridge manufacturing required two to three months. This production speed allowed Sony to quickly adjust the quantity of games to meet demand.
