An irregular and falsified civil marriage for Napoleon and Josephine

Napoleon and Josephine were married on March 9, 1796 in Paris at the town hall of the 2nd arrondissement. The spouses falsified their ages on the official certificate in order to reduce their six-year gap, with Josephine making herself four years younger while Bonaparte made himself eighteen months older. Furthermore, the marriage was not regulatory because the commissioner present was not authorized to celebrate it.
