Napoleon was a champion of extended leave

Napoleon Bonaparte was assigned to the La Fère artillery regiment in 1785, but he spent long months away from his garrison. Having obtained a six-month leave in 1786 to return to Corsica, he took more than a year to return. This habit of extending his absences was repeated several times during his military youth, notably between 1789 and 1791 when he lingered in the same way on the island.
