A faulty pistol was replaced at the last minute

Fernand Bonnier de La Chapelle had to change his weapon shortly before taking action. His original English pistol indeed showed signs of firing pin malfunction during a test in the heights of Algiers. He was thus able to use a 7.65 mm Browning caliber Ruby pistol provided to him by Jean-Bernard d'Astier.
