The Catacombs of Paris house the bones of suppressed parishes

The Catacombs of Paris constitute a vast underground network born from the transfer of bones from Parisian parish cemeteries. This decision was taken at the end of the 18th century for health reasons, leading to the displacement of all bodies in 1786. These former quarries are located under what has become the Place Denfert-Rochereau situated in the 14th arrondissement.
