The University of Paris was founded in 1200

The University of Paris is a major intellectual center whose symbolic foundation dates back to 1200. At that date, King Philippe Auguste granted a special status to masters and students by removing them from public justice and police to place them under ecclesiastical jurisdiction. This organization developed around the montagne Sainte-Geneviève, before later giving birth to the Sorbonne in 1257.
