Politics is the origin of the Real Madrid-Barcelona match

The Clasico is a match opposing FC Barcelona to Real Madrid CF, the two biggest Spanish clubs. The opposition between these teams draws its roots from the history of Spain, and more particularly from the Francoist era. Madrid was then the seat of the government of a unitary regime, while Barcelona defended democracy and the independence of Catalonia.
