The Spirit of Spiez forged the 1954 champions

The Spirit of Spiez refers to the cohesion method adopted by the German national team in 1954. Coach Herberger isolated his players from the press and their loved ones at the Belvedere hotel to build a tight-knit community. Excursions, card games, and individual interviews cemented this group which finally achieved victory.
